November 2008

November couldn't have come sooner for us. Gary wrapped up his season on Halloween and Maggie's soccer season had just a few more weeks. We were on the home stretch. What makes November even better is Thanksgiving... not just the food but four quiet days at our favorite place on earth - Camas Meadows.

Maggie had a decent season this year... winning a few and losing a few. She played all over the field this year but didn't see any time in goal. We were a little disappointed in that because she is a great goalie but she did a great job in the field too.

Gary played in the annual Turkey Bowl flag football game and miraculously no one got injured this year. When you get a bunch of 30 and 40 something guys together to play flag (which must translate in to full-on tackle in some language, because that is what they play 90% of the time) injuries are inevitable. I'm sure there were a lot of injuries that didn't reveal themselves until later in the week but hey, that's part of football!!

And finally...Thanksgiving at Camas. We went up with three other families and it was so much fun. The house was full of kids who couldn't sleep past 6:30 a.m. We went on beautiful hikes and had game time and quiet time. It is the perfect way for us to unwind after a busy two months of school and soccer. The girls got a chance to go shopping in Leavenworth without the kids and had a great time looking at all the shops we can't go in with kids (because they'll break something!!). One of my favorite things was bedtime. The kids sat around and played "tag team" story telling, where one person starts a story and the next person adds a few lines. It made for some silly stories and the kids loved it. We had hoped we might get snowed in but the weather didn't cooperate. It's a great reminder of all the things - family, good friends, God's amazing creation, delicious food - that we are thankful for.
