I love January. I love the idea that you can just wipe the slate clean and start all over. I used to do resolutions but then I realized they were always very similiar...eat better, exercise more, watch less TV, do more together as a family, finish projects. So instead of resolving to do them over again, we just hit the reset button. Make them top priority again. We've been a little slow about doing that in 2011. We've been in recovery mode. Recovering from the holidays. Recovering from being sick. Recovering from going back to reality after the holidays and being sick. But now that we've recovered, it is really nice to have hit that button.

I have to confess. I did make a list. Inspired by one of the blogs I love (whatever... by Meg Duerksen) I made a list of 40 things I want to do before I turn 40. I don't actually turn 40 until 2012 but I wanted to give myself the full year to focus on what I wanted to accomplish. I plan to share that list with you...soon... but I haven't decided on that elusive number 40 item yet. It will come to me. I hope.
Going for the goal. In the cold. In shorts and short sleeves. |
As you know, our life revolves around soccer. Even in January. And I'm not talking about indoor soccer. We are still playing outside...in the cold...and the wet. Soccer ain't for wussys. Or is it wussies. Either way, you get the point. So in her first game back my marvelous Maggie scored two goals. Only one of them counted. The linesman called offsides on the second one but I'm not sure what game he was watching when he did that. Any hoo... her one goal was all they needed to win. It was awesome. Then the next day her teammates voted her the offensive MVP. Now at first I thought it was because of the goals but it turns out she had actually been selected when her team voted at practice on Thursday. How cool is that!?! She didn't score any goals last week but still had a really good game. They won again...two in a row. A first for this season. And it was great! Her dad also had a really big development. He was asked to be the assistant coach for her team. He has been struggling all season with the desire to coach even though he isn't the coach. It was killing him. In the words of one of our parents, he gets all "squirrely". It's true. So now he can coach away! Well, once we get to next season anyway!!
