Break Time...Sort Of

Well we have reached that strange place in our lives where we only have one soccer thing going. It's funny but we are kind of out of sorts when we don't have soccer and even just having one throws us off a bit. Gary's boys lost a hard game 2-1 in the semi-finals of the state cup. They could have beaten this team. But having a kid with pneumonia, one who's on an inhaler for a respiratory infection, one with a fever, one with an ear infection, one just getting over being sick and one coming down with the crud makes things a little more difficult. It was a great season for the boys and one we'd hoped to cap off with the championship but we'll celebrate what we did accomplish with great joy all the same!

Yes, this is a picture of her scab.
Maggie's team was eliminated from the cup in the first elimination round after advancing in their bracket. The girls also fought really hard and never gave up in their last game. It was awesome to see them continue to play like they could win it even when they got down by two goals. They have the potential to do some really great things and I can't wait for next year. In the meantime, most of the team is playing indoor soccer (our one thing). Maggie had her first game last night...her first time ever playing indoor. She scored two goals and helped out on a couple of others. It was really cool. She also got her first turf burn, compliments of her dad. She loved the fast pace and of course, putting the ball in the back of the net. She's already chomping at the bit for the next game.

Molly wanted to get out on the field herself. She pleaded with me to let her show them how she played. I knew she'd get clobbered so I kept her on the sideline but those pee-wee players better watch out this fall. She has also decided she wants to take dance classes. Any time there is music, she has to dance. We watched Step Up 3 Friday and she was right there dancing along with them. I secretly kind of hoped she'd only want to dance but in this family that isn't very realistic.

Dancing at home. Love the outfit!

So now Gary is on to coaching Special Olympics basketball. We absolutely love this time of year. It is relatively short but the kids just melt my heart. It's been really good for my girls to be around these kids as well. Maggie says they are special and that they don't have handicaps, they have "specialties"... I just love that. I'm also looking forward to opponents who are happy that you won and who give you hugs and tell you how great you are even if you didn't score a single point. I could probably take a cue from them myself.

There were two teams this year but only one made it through to state. Not that the other team minded. They were happy to take fourth place and grinned from ear to ear when they got their medals (see photo at right). So now we head to the Winter Games with gold in our sights!
