Create

I love to be creative. I constantly have ideas running through my head. They wake me up at night. One thing I do not have, however, is the time to make all my ideas become reality. I'm trying though. I scrapbook, turn old pieces/junk/antiques into pieces I love, dabble in photography, occasionally try my hand at sewing.  I usually get my inspiration from what others do (see that list of Blogs I Love again). Here are a few of my projects. Who knows...maybe they'll inspire you too!

BUFFET TO ENTERTAINMENT CENTER

During one of my regular trips to Goodwill, I spied this little gem.

I went to the store knowing I had my hubby's truck that day (a rare occurence) and hoping I might find a dresser I could convert into an entertainment center. Finding this buffet was even better.  The top drawer went the length of the piece and was the perfect width for all our electronics. So we pulled that out and set it aside (maybe I'll find another use for it!).

I took the little beauty home, filled in some of the imperfections...but not all of them. After all that's where some of the piece's character comes from. I would have loved to leave it in it's natural finish but some of the flaws were just too obvious.  After I sanded those down, I sprayed it with primer and then two coats of Ivory. I roughed it up a bit and then put a layer of tinted glaze on it.  The glaze was tinted with a very dark chocolate brown. I wiped most of it off, letting it settle into the piece's many grooves.  We replaced the broken hinges and found new handles to match the tarnished plates. And voila...

Here it is in our living room. It was better than what I had envisioned. Now the hubs has some visions of his own...including a bigger TV!
